Working as a social media marketer completes the circle of my past positions in a career of marketing. My background is primarily in PR and Marketing for most business models but over the last four years I have worked closely in social media marketing.
I am passionate about this media and offer commitment, dedication and a creative process in achieving all outcomes for my clients.
I began my career in administration for architects whilst studying make-up design. From there I worked as a make-up artist for fashion and film which I did successfully for 5 years.
I then combined the two and worked for a successful PR company in Sydney that had fantastic clients such as Christian Dior, Crabtree & Evelyn, Playtex to name but a few. I learnt so much on the job in that role getting to a position of Account Executive for many of the clients over my 4 years there.
I followed this with a stint in hospitality, managing the Kangaroo Valley Golf and Country Resort for a period of 4 years.
Throughout this time babies were born and time was taken out to be a mum but on returning to the workforce I started my own small business venture Gum Tree Lane. A product range that infuses Australian Bush fragrances and essential oils in personal and home care range. A successful product that remains in the marketplace today.
This is when I first found Social Media and could see the benefits of this media for all businesses. I found Facebook a fantastic avenue to gain customers and highlight a business whilst engaging people offering customer support and building relationships. It was so exciting and I wanted to know more!
I love how the statistics grow and change for all platforms and understand how to interpret these and manipulate them for business. I believe that connecting with SMBB who have a national presence with a secure backend and offer research training and development we have the edge in this fast paced business.
What role does social media play in your day-to-day routine? Professional and personal.
A great big part of my day! Personally I love to check into Facebook and twitter and now have the love of the Foursquare app. Professionally I have been a social media marketer for just under 4 years with my own small business and working in this field for a local business. My favourite in this arena would definitely be LinkedIn! Yes I am an addict to this media it has become my passion!!
What was your background prior to joining Social Media Business Boosters?
Prior to joining SMBB I worked in social media marketing within my role as Marketing Manager for a medium size business in the health industry.
Can you tell us a little about your existing marketing experience/skills?
Prior to finding Social Media Business Boosters I worked in PR and Marketing, hospitality marketing, and then for two companies with a large part of their brief being social media marketing this I learnt through following my own instincts and some training.
What’s the most important change for you in the last year to do with technology that you want to share?
I love the apps that encourage sharing and reviews such as Foursquare. To be able to have an app on your phone that can check out where you are and suggest how you spend your time there with honest reviews is awesome!
What are you most optimistic about for social media in the next 12 months?
I love how businesses can develop connections that can assist them in so many ways within their marketing strategy such as LinkedIn. As there are so many platforms its exciting how through designing a social media strategy that fits their needs the outcomes can be so enormous.
Community sharing and support is another angle in this field that I am passionate about. Through social media people are connecting with communities that they genuinely enjoy and/or benefit from whether that be through engagement, participation or support.
What makes your business different?
I think through my work history I can offer a diverse range of ideas and have the marketing background to implement them in a creative and positive way. Being part of SMBB ensures that the research training and development I continually receive in this fast paced industry is always ahead of the rest an important element that can be transferred to my clients.
What challenges have you overcome to get where you are now?
Wow as I look back over my work history I can see some challenges and could easily reflect on different pathways I could of taken. I prefer to view those challenges as achievements I have created and there are many. I believe that these achievements all have a place into creating a strong established business now, as experience, commitment and organisation skills.
As a working mum of three beautiful children I would have to say that balance to work and family is always a challenge and always an achievement!
