In my previous career I was a Messaging and Groupware Engineer for the Department of Defence. I worked with messaging platforms such as Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Lync and SharePoint.
I have been in a large Government enterprise environment for over a decade and am moving my focus to the ever evolving social media space for an exciting change. I have seen many success stories with businesses that set their sights on the social media arena. In this digital boom I can see myself growing businesses with Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. My passion is communicating to large groups of people and social media has made this possible.
My vision is to sit with client’s and identify what platforms would suit them most. Once their target market has been identified, look at ways to engage their audience. I’m a firm believer of engagement. Engaging an audience involves them and spreads a message much faster than “bill boarding”.
What role does social media play in your day-to-day routine? Professional and personal.
Like many people I wake up to my social media. At a glance I can see what is going on in the news, with my friends and in the business arena. I am constantly learning new things. Because almost all of my friends and family are on Facebook it is a primary means of communication.
What was your background prior to joining Social Media Business Boosters?
For over a decade I have been in the Defence environment, working in the Messaging and Groupware team. Prior to this I worked on the Bigpond help desk and as a freelance web designer/photographer in the States prior to that.
Can you tell us a little about your existing marketing experience/skills?
My experience is communicating new messaging technologies to a large government environment.
What’s the most important change for you in the last year to do with technology that you want to share?
Digital technology is becoming more portable, functional and relied on.
What are you most optimistic about for social media in the next 12 months?
Social Media marketing is still in it’s infancy so there are many amazing opportunities out there. The average user’s reliance on Facebook in Australia has exceeded existing marketing’s ability to keep up.
What makes your business different?
I have a lifestyle business where we live, eat and breath social media. I am enthusiastic to get highly desirable outcomes through innovation.
What challenges have you overcome to get where you are now?
My biggest challenge was leaving a safe and familiar environment to pursue a career I have been sitting on the sidelines of for around 24 months.
